BRIDGE Tutoring

June 1st, 2011

Bridge Jobs!
6/14/2011 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM
Remember all the academic support you had in high school? If you are like me, you never would have made to where you are today without the help of parents, teachers, friends, and maybe even a private tutor or two. Now is your chance to give back and provide support to those who may not have been as fortunate.
NA-YGN is teaming up with Charlotte’s BRIDGE Jobs Program to provide academic support for high school drop outs looking for a second chance. The mission of BRIDGE is “helping high school drop outs, the unemployed and underemployed citizens of Mecklenburg County obtain and sustain long-term, career enhancing employment by providing them with career counseling and support as they complete their education.”
NA-YGN has agreed to provide math and reading tutors for BRIDGE’s adult class. Typical math topics that students need help with include: fractions, word problems, and solving basic algebraic equations (e.g. 3x +7 = 28). Reading tutors are asked to follow along as students read aloud and provide assistance as needed.
Please contact Landon Kanner (Landon.Kanner@areva.com) if you are interested in volunteering or would like more information.

Collecting donations for tornado victims in the Bellefonte area

May 23rd, 2011

Good Afternoon Members – it’s a fresh, new week!

NA-YGN is teaming up with Bellefonte Christmas Charities and sponsoring a donation collection for the victims in the Bellefonte area of Alabama. In support of our employees and colleagues at Bellefonte, we are asking the employees in the AREVA offices for donations to send along with those sponsored by NA-YGN. Beginning today, May 23, and ending Friday, May 27, donation bins will be set up at our first floor entrance doors and at the first floor elevators. Essential items such as toiletries, miscellaneous health and cleaning supplies, diapers (all sizes), baby formula, and other small (nonperishable) household items will be collected during this time.

Please consider helping with this effort. Although the tornado occurred last month there is still a real need for help. The damage in Alabama is still visible, trees are down everywhere, and the cleanup effort has barely made a dent.

We appreciate anything you can do to help and also would appreciate it if you would spread the word so we can make this a HUGE effort!

See information below that was sent out through Corporate Communications.

May 23rd, 2011

Hello NA-YGN Members,

Our Charlotte NA-YGN Chapter has been recognized by the national NA-YGN organization as the Best Chapter for the Carolinas Region for our outstanding achievements in 2010. We would like to extend a huge thank you to the 2010 Committee for being a large part of the reason we won this award, and a special thank you to Eric and Jenn, for all the hard work and effort they put into leading our chapter! We would also like to thank our members, because, without you, we would not have such a great chapter. Thank you for all of the hours you have devoted to being a member of the North American Young Generation in Nuclear! You have certainly made AREVA-Charlotte proud!

Additionally, for their exceptional work with the Civic Involvement Project and www.cleanenergyinsight.org, Mike Bloom and Carrington Dillon were awarded with the Future Award to honor their devotion to nuclear advocacy across the nation, and Eric Danner won the Excellence Award for his outstanding leadership and countless achievements while serving as the chair of the Charlotte NA-YGN Chapter.

Congratulations to all of you on these achievements and for being such an amazing group of people!
